Setup for WinXP


GO TO:

1.   Start

2.   Control Panel

3.   Switch to Classic View on the left hand side

4.   Internet Options (in alphabetical order)

5.   Put in the home page address

a.   Ie. http://www.silverstar.com

6.   Click on Connections at the top

a.   Make sure there are no old dialers in the box & remove any that are not being used

b.   Click on Add on the right hand side

c.   Check Dialup to Private Network

d.   Click Next

e.   Put in the Phone Number (No Area Code)

f.   Click Next

g.   Put in the server Name

i.Ie Silverstar

h.   Click Finish

i.   There should not be anything checked on this page (unless they are using the Proxy, see proxy setup)

j.   Put in the Username and Password

k.   Click on Properties on the right hand side of the Username

l.   Click on Configure under the modem

m. Change port speed to 57600

n.   Click OK

o.   Check the Phone Number

p.   Make sure that the Use Dialing Rules is NOT marked

7.   Click on Network Tab at the top

8.   In the first box it should start with PPP, directly below it the is a setting button. Click Settings.

9.   There should only be Enable Software Compression marked (unmark the other 2)

10. Click OK

11. In the next box down under This Connection Uses the Following Items

a.   Internet Protocol TCP/IP

b.   QOS Packet Scheduler

c.   Client for Microsoft Network should all be checked

12. Highlight Internet Protocol TCP/IP and then click Properties button.

13. Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS automatically should be marked

14. Click OK

15. Click OK

16. Now under Dialup and Virtual Private Network Settings it should say the providers name (ie Silverstar (default))

17. Make sure it is marked to Always Dial My Default Connection

18. Set Default

19. Click OK

20. Close the Control Panel

21. Open Internet Explorer

22. Click on Work Offline

23. Click on the Mail Tab at the top

24. Click on Read Mail

25. If the connection Wizard for Outlook Express doesn’t come up

a.   Click on Tools

b.   Accounts

c.   Mail tab at the top

d.   Make sure there isn’t any old accounts and if there are remove them

e.   Click on Add

f.   Click on Mail

g.   Put in there Real Name, Click Next

h.   Put in there Email Address, Click Next

i.   Put in there Server information, Click Next

j.   Put in there Password (remember password should be checked by default)

k.   Make sure Log On Using Secure Authentication is NOT Checked

l.   Click Next

m. Click Finish

      n. Click properties

      o. Click server tab at the top

      p. Put a check in my server requires authentication

      q. Click ok

      r. Click ok

26. Close the Outlook Express

27. Close the Internet Explorer

28. Open the Internet Explorer and make sure they have a dialer and tell them to connect from there.
