Setup for Windows 98, or ME


GO TO:

1.   Start

2.   Settings

3.   Control Panel

4.   Internet Options

5.   General Tab

a.   Enter in the Homepage Address

i.Ie. http://www.silverstar.com

6.   Connections Tab

a.   Make sure there are no old dialers in the box & remove any that are not being used.

b.   Click on Add on the right hand side

c.   Put in the Server Name

i.Ie. Silverstar

d.   Click Next

e.   Put in the Phone Number. (No area code.)

f.   Click Next

g.   Click Finish

7.   Now the Dialup and Virtual Private Network Settings box should show the correct Internet providers Name.

8.   Make sure that Always Dial My default Connection is marked.

9.   Click on Set Default on the right hand side.

10. To the Right of the dialup box click on Settings

11. Nothing should be marked on this Page (unless using the Proxy/igear)

12. Put in the Username and Password

13. Click on Properties on the right hand side

14. Read the phone number back to the customer

15. Make sure there is not a check in the use Area Code and Dialing Properties

16. Click on Server Types Tab at the top (Networking for ME)

a.   The first three letters in the first box should be PPP

b.   Mark ONLY

i.Enable Software Compression

ii.           TCP/IP

17. Click on TCP/IP Settings

a.   Mark Server Assigned IP Address

b.   Mark Server Assigned Name Server Address

c.   Mark USE IP Header Compression

d.   Mark USE Default Gateway

18. Click OK

19. Click OK

20. Click OK

21. Click OK

22. Close Control Panel

23. Go to Internet Explorer

24. Should bring up the dialer

25. Click Work Offline

26. Click on the mail icon at the top of the screen

27. In the OE if the wizard doesn’t come up

a.   Go to Tools

b.   Accounts

c.   Remove any accounts that show that they are not using

d.   Click on Add on the right hand side

e.   Click on Mail

f.   Put in there Real Name, Click Next

g.   Put in there email Address, Click Next

h.   Put in the incoming and outgoing server information, Click Next

i.   Put in the Password, Click Next

j.   Click Finish

                  k. Click properties

                  l. Click server tab at the top

                  m. Put a check in my server requires authentication

                  n. Click ok

k.   Close the Mail Accounts screen

28. Close the Outlook Express

29. Close the Internet Explorer

30. Open the Internet Explorer and make sure they get the connection screen

31. Hang up with the customer and have them try it from there.
